AI and tech in Cameroon

Cameroon's listed organisations sit in three cities: Douala, the commercial centre; Yaoundé, the capital; and Buea, home of the Silicon Mountain tech community. The directory covers product startups, two innovation hubs, two developer communities and an open science lab.

The listed startups work in health (video consultations, home lab sampling, combined remote and in person care), fintech and digital savings, and agriculture, where one Yaoundé team uses computer vision and a local language voice interface to diagnose crop pests and diseases. The lab in Yaoundé produces open biotech tools and reagents.

Public bodies and rules

Digital and AI policy sits with MINPOSTEL, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, with its agency ANTIC. A national AI strategy to 2040 was launched at the CONIA conference in Yaoundé in July 2025; no formal adoption decree has been identified.

Companies are created through the CFCE company creation centres run by APME, with an official deadline of 72 hours. Cameroon has no startup act. A personal data law (Law No. 2024/017 of 23 December 2024) creates a protection authority; the law applies in full from 23 June 2026, but the authority is not yet operational.

Looking for work or partners

Cameroon has two official languages, English and French, and the listed scene spans both: Buea is in the English speaking southwest, Douala and Yaoundé are mainly French speaking. The country uses the Central African CFA franc issued by the BEAC, shared with five other Central African states.

The developer communities and the hubs in Douala and Buea are the usual places to meet engineers and founders. Partners handling personal data should follow the new data law even before its authority starts work.
