AI and tech in Tunisia

Most organisations listed for Tunisia are in Tunis; one listed robotics company is in Sousse. The directory covers product startups, an accelerator with its own seed fund, two innovation hubs, two AI associations and the public operator of the startup label.

The listed startups work in enterprise AI, autonomous security robots, IoT and AI for energy management, tech skills training with data science and generative AI tracks, and a super app for rides, delivery and payments that also operates in Morocco. One listed company sells its robots into Europe and North America, another has a subsidiary in France, and the AI associations include academics and practitioners working abroad.

02

Public bodies and rules

Digital policy sits with the Ministry of Communication Technologies. No national AI strategy had been adopted as of September 2026; the 2026 Finance Law provides for an SNIA 2026-2030 executive plan.

Tunisia has had a Startup Act since 2018 (Loi n° 2018-20 of 17 April 2018, with decree 2018-840 setting out the labelling committee and how the label is granted and withdrawn). Smart Capital, listed here, operates the label and the Startup Tunisia programme. Companies are created through the APII one-stop investment window (Guichet Unique), with the Tunisia Investment Authority (TIA) for investments above TND 15 million. Personal data is overseen by the INPDP under Organic Law 2004-63.

03

Looking for work or partners

For a startup or a partner, the first question is usually whether it holds the startup label, since the label is what gives access to the Act's incentives. Startup Tunisia's site sets out the benefits.

The hubs, the accelerator and the AI associations are the places to meet engineers and founders. The listed enterprise AI company founded in Tunis, now owned by BioNTech, keeps its Tunis office.
